This year we even enjoyed real fireworks around Lakeside!

Situation of Nepal

The biggest news is the death of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the age of 86. He was one of the most famous political people since 1990. He was the leader of the Nepali Congress Party and was 5 times Prime Minister in total!

The government and political parties still doubt about launching the new constitution!

Projects QOLN

  • Day Care Centre (DCC)

We had a wonderful opening ceremony on April 14. QOLN was very happy to welcome Theo Hulshof as a chief guest. But this beautiful school couldn’t be build without the financial help of our Quality of Life Belgian friends Lut Verlinden and Tony Schilders and their OLVI Middenschool in Boom, Katrijn Schilders and the Berthout institute Mechelen, Ingo Beenen, Theo Hulshof and the PABO in Zwolle and Lucie Hulshof and the Wolvega Institute, together with lots of private donations.

Theo Hulshof and his school donated an extra 2700 euro for compound and learning materials.

[img_assist|nid=286|title=Handover cheque|desc=|link=none|align=center|width=250|height=188]

On this special day QOLN could express its gratitude to all these sponsors and

express wishes of good luck for all children and mothers in Sarangkot, to be able to use this facility in the best way!

  • Nepal Child Plan

In our sponsor program, we have now 77 sponsored children. A warm thank you to all sponsor parents, who give these children the chance to continue their school and to start a new school year from April 18!

All kids received new uniforms, books, and copies. The families also received a donation of 11 euro to help their other kids in providing school materials.

QOLN says goodbye to coordinator Madhu Adhikari who worked for the last 3 years for this project. We thank her for her time and cooperation.

  • Click click program

This program will finally start after all rooms are furnished and installed. We are happy to welcome Ria Hillebrand again, who will help to scan all disabled children and work with caregiver Yam to train him. QOLN hopes that many more disabled children will find a daycare in our centre.

News about Shoba is that her eyes are improving. She wears her glasses continuously now and the doctor said they will do an operation only when she is 16. Thank you to all private sponsors who gave money to be able to visit the doctor. With money left, we will support Shoba and her little brother, so they have some nutritious food and some proper clothing.

  • Buffalo project

On April 3, QOLN organized a special program with donor Olivier Toulemonde from D.E.P.A.R.T.S. as a chief guest. Again, 18 beneficiaries could receive an amount of 300 euro to buy a buffalo and pay this money back as a soft loan in 2 years time. These days, the price of a buffalo is much higher than other years.

QOLN honored 2 women who worked the hardest to pay back their loan and make profit from their buffalo.

  • Government school in Bhanjyang

At the beginning of April Ram attended to the result day in the school in Bhanjyang. The construction of the building is finished, only the inside plaster work has to be done. In addition, the toilet and the storeroom have to get a metal roof.

QOLN wishes to thank QOLB with Lut Verlinden & Tony Schilders & the OLVI Middenschool in Boom and Kapelle-op-den-Bos for helping to fund this project.

  • Health post Sundar Pokhari

When all the work in the DCC is finished, QOLN will start to rebuild the health post. This will start before the monsoon.

  • Planting bamboo

The monsoon is coming near, so QOLN will organize together with the village committee the planting of bamboo and amriso (kind of cane) at the landslide sides on the hills of Sarangkot.

  • Pandeli High School

QOLN is searching for new funds to help the Jana Jagrit Higher Secondary School in Sarangkot, Pandeli. From class 6 all our Nepal Child Plan students are going to this school. They asked for funds to build a library connected to a research and community centre for their youth. Estimated cost is 18.000 euro.

  • From hostel to Tops Boarding School

All the private sponsored kids changed to a new boarding school and hostel. We chose the TOPS Boarding school, which is one of the best schools at the “top” indeed. They started their new school year on Monday April 19.

In this sponsor program, we help children who lost a mother or father. If you feel like contributing to these children’s education and future, please contact us.

Remarks

  • QOLN thanks all the donors, sponsors & volunteers who show their enthusiasm and support!

  • We have still up to 11 hours of power cuts EACH DAY!

New Blue Planet Lodge

We still couldn’t open our new hotel. To finish inside (and outside) takes much longer. There are different groups working, but they make everything so dirty again. I really have to close my eyes!

For Dutch speaking people, we have a very nice review in the “Reiskrant” from REISWEG.

Belgium

Tara & I will leave for Belgium on June 15 for 6 weeks of holiday. We are preparing Tara’s stay in KTM and her start in the Secondary school KISC.

Many friends requested for our yearly Nepal-day, therefore I invite everybody who lives in or close to Belgium on my “dal bhat happening” in Diepenbeek on Saturday July 3.

I will also give a Chakra course in Ardèche (France) July 11-18 before going home on July 26.

Warm greetings from Pokhara
